labor day weekend and the perfect pizza

Grandma Scoville came to visit for labor day weekend. The boys soaked up as much attention as they could get. Stories were read, songs were sung, and games were played. Max was on cloud 19 with all the attention.

Grandma was nice enough to babysit on Saturday so J-P and I could go out to celebrate our 4th anniversary. J-P and I are both "foodies" so our precious date time is always spent at restaurants. After much deliberation we finally settled on this place. It was sublime. Our waiter, a fellow foodie, recommended the "padre" pizza. It's not on the menu, but should be. Without a doubt, the best pizza I have tasted in my entire life. I salivate every time I think about it, which is usually at least 37 times a day. The ingredients: fresh ricotta, figs, prosciutto, and arugula. The combination of flavors is perfect, divine. It might become an addiction. After dinner we wandered next door and had the most amazing gelato. My favorite flavors were fresh plum with dark chocolate shavings, coconut with dark chocolate, and roasted almond with lingonberries. In all, a perfect night.

p.s. Top Design started again last night (it is the ONLY reality tv i watch) and it was mentioned that the contestant Andrea is married to Ricky Schroder. "Who is Ricky Schroder?" , I asked J-P. "Oh, you know, that blond kid from Saved By the Bell," he said. Certain that J-P was mistaken, I began my google search. He was not on saved by the bell, but a show called silver spoons. He has been on NYPD blue, scrubs, 24, and a few others. Interestingly, he recently converted to mormonism. You can read his conversion story here.

p.s.s. thanks for the visit Grandma, and for our much needed date night

Thanks Grandma. Max still asks for you to sing...

The pizza was fantastic, but not perfect. We'll have to go back and try another. :)

As for Ricky Schroder...I said he was on that Silver Spoons show along with Saved by the Bell.

PS MA does have a slight reality show addiction that she's not fully admitting to here. Design Star, and the Bachelor AND Bachelorette.

PPS She also loves to use that darn socialist library. :)

Glad to hear your side too, J-P! I was about to say - how could neither of you know that Ricky Schroeder was on Silver Spoons? My brother was always told he looked like Ricky Schroeder, so he was well known in our home. He was the one with that WAY cool train and spiral staircase in his home! LUCKY! Glad to hear you guys had a date night!

I LOVE RICKY SHRODER MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF. As a wee girl, I requested that every single episode be taped on our new VCR and they were. It was the only show I watched. I watched the episodes over and over and dreamt about Ricky and fantasized that we would get married too, just like his darn wife, but it didn't happen for me. I was quite obsessed for many years. I get excited just thinking about him now. When I heard in college that he got baptized I praised the Lord and knew afresh the church was true. THEN, a few years ago at stake conference, THERE HE WAS!!! I sat a ways behind him with my then-boyfriend, salivating and drooling and gushing about every move he and his children made:

"Look, honey, he put his arm around his wife!!!"

"Look sweetie, HE SNEEZED!"

"Oh my gosh, his 2-year-old is cuddling his wife!"

"Look! He just checked his watch!"

"OH! Now his wife just patted his knee!"

"Look, his 5-year-old wandered away! I SHOULD GET HER!! DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GET HER AND RETURN HER? I'M GOING TO GO GET HER! Dang it, his wife got her."

And lots more.
I heart Ricky Shroder. :)

Jessica, you crack me up. I can totally visualize you saying all those things. And Sara, J-P might have thought silver spoons in his head but didn't say it out loud. We had a nice long "discussion" about it. He mentioned he was a blond kid from an 80's show but never actually said silver spoons. oh, and I forgot about the bachelor. embarrassingly enough, i do watch it.

Ditto on the being in love with Ricky. I still cannot believe you missed Silver Spoons, M-A! That is such a bummer...maybe you could borrow the tapes from Jessica??? I too, loved the train and the spiral staircase...and still fantastize about having them in my "dream house." The car bed was really cool too.

THE CAR BED!!! I loved it! Every time I see one now I still think of him. What about when his dad would ride the exercise bicycle while looking at videos of a roller coaster or zooming down a city street?! SO COOL! And he had arcade games IN HIS HOUSE! And sometimes he snuck out his window. And one episode he shot a deer, maybe by mistake or something, and at the end, it had him come on, out of character, and say that "No animals were harmed in the making of this show." It was the first time I ever heard that phrase. And he was so cute. He was my crush of a lifetime! And I love him so much. I mean loved. I think.

ok, i'm gonna have to get my hands on this show and watch it to see what all the fuss is about:) the only tv i watched in the 80's was Full House, Unsolved Mysteries, and Debbie Gibson videos on VH1. oh, and the disney channel.

I used to be in love with Ricky Schroder, and firmly believed we would one day be together. I wrote in my little girl journal that I loved "the Ricker." I think this was not a name I made up, but something he called himself on the show, of which I was of course a super fan.

PS--Why are you eating pizza and gelato? That's not fair.
